Alta Weather Station Upgrade
Background
At the Alta Ski Area, located in one of the most avalanche prone areas in the United States, upper Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, the Alta Ski Patrol start early. At 2 am in the morning the ski patrol team is up to assess weather and avalanche conditions for the hundreds of skiers heading up the canyon, and they need reliable data and they need it now. Decisions made at these early morning hours from data collected from the nations oldest running snow stake determine what and how skiers will use the mountain. So when Alta asked for help to upgrade their reliable Campbell Scientific infrastructure the task was taken seriously.
outcome
Upgraded Campbell Scientific equipment was sourced, programed and installed throughout the Alta Ski Area during the summers months. Providing months of uptime prior to the busy winter when weather station debugging is a non-option. Additional on-site training on data logger programing was provided.
